Position Summary

The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, network and software and related infrastructure. You will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure and will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, network and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling Colleagues, volunteers, and other partners.


You will be responsible for the following systems: Linux and Windows systems that support infrastructure; Linux, Windows and Application systems that support Asset Management; Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

System Administrator Engineering and Provisioning Responsibilities

  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers/desktops and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Install and configure systems such as infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications.
  • Define Gold image standard build and application packaging standards.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Research and recommend innovative and, where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Operations and Support Responsibilities

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor degree in related field of Engineering or Computer Science. Four to six years of system administration experience. Technology Architecture experience is a plus.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.


Language Skills

Strong written and verbal communications. Ability to document as required by regulations and policy. Ability to successfully write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Colleagues.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to deal with a variety of problems and determine best solution in a timely manner.


Computer Skills

System Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft and Cisco. Microsoft Azure and O365. Proficiency in Cerner, HomeCare HomeBase, Desktop, Microsoft Office, LAN, and WAN environments. Knowledge of application support.


Other Qualifications

Ability to work a flexible schedule including on-call and some nights and weekends. Must be able to travel.  


Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Must have a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.


Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, such as patient and Company files in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company policy.
